Question about a weird thing a guy said at a game night in Cincinnati
I was at a local game cafe in Cincinnati about three months ago, just trying out a new worker placement game with a few people. This one guy, maybe in his fifties, was teaching it. He was super into the rules, but then he just stopped mid sentence, looked right at me, and said, 'You know, the real game isn't on the board. It's in watching everyone else's plans fall apart.' He said it totally serious, like he was sharing some deep truth. We all just kind of laughed it off and kept playing, but it stuck with me. It wasn't about winning for him, it was about the mess. I've played a lot since then and I catch myself watching for that moment when someone's strategy hits a wall. Has anyone else had a game teacher say something that just shifted how you play?
