inJust realized my kombucha SCOBY is over 3 inches thick now
That weird film in 2022 was probably mold trying to start. A three inch SCOBY is a sign it's been breaking down for a long time and is mostly old, dead layers. It can make the kombucha taste really sour and vinegary. I would not trust a batch that had a scare like that to still be good two years later. Starting fresh with a new culture is safer and makes a better drink.

inA talk with my grandpa about his old coal forge
I mean it's just heating metal, right? Maybe we're overthinking how deep the connection goes. It's still just a tool at the end of the day.

inI spent $60 on a fancy planner system that just made me feel worse
My cousin bought a $200 bullet journal kit and now it just collects dust on her desk.

inSerious question, has anyone else had a fabric bleed disaster during a wash test?
Ugh, that's the worst feeling, watching the dye just run out like that. Don't you hate when a fabric looks so good but can't hold its color at all? I usually take a small scrap and dunk it in some really hot water with a bit of my regular laundry soap. If it's going to bleed, I want to know right away before it ruins anything else. What kind of soap do you use for your wash tests?

inMy aunt told me to stop buying pre-ground and get a burr grinder
Pre-ground is fine, the whole thing is overblown. My drip machine tastes the same either way.
