Tried a puzzle feeder for my husky and now my living room is a crime scene

I bought this 'advanced' puzzle ball you fill with kibble, thinking it would keep Luna busy for 30 minutes. She figured it out in under 60 seconds, then slammed it against the coffee table until it exploded, scattering bits of plastic and dog food across the entire carpet. So, are puzzle toys a legit brain game or just fancy destruction devices waiting to happen?

A client in Phoenix told me my extractions were too fast and it made her skin flare up for days.

She said I was rushing through the congested areas on her cheeks and not letting the steam really open things up first. I started adding a full 10 minutes of steam time before I even touch a tool, and I do a second pass with a warm towel halfway through. Her skin looked so much calmer at her follow up. How do you guys pace a tough extraction session without making the client uncomfortable?

Tried a new clear coat from a small brand my buddy swore by

I was fixing a 2015 F150 hood and used their 2K spray, which dried way faster than my usual stuff and had zero orange peel. Now I'm thinking of switching for bigger jobs but want to know if it holds up long term. Anyone run a full paint job with a new clear and check it a year later?

Rant: My power went out for a whole weekend and I finally watched 'Severance'

A huge storm hit my area last Friday and knocked out the electricity for like 36 hours straight. My phone battery was dead, I couldn't work, and I was just sitting there bored out of my mind. I remembered I had downloaded a few episodes of 'Severance' on my tablet a while back but never got around to it. I ended up watching the entire first season in one go, only stopping when the lights finally flickered back on Sunday night. The show is so weird and tense, and being stuck in my quiet, dark house made it feel even more real, lol. I was totally hooked by the mystery of what Lumon Industries is really doing. Has anyone else binged a show because they were forced into a situation with nothing else to do? What did you watch?

Vent: Just read a report that says 40% of appliance calls are for user error, not broken parts

Found this in a trade magazine article from last month. They surveyed a bunch of shops and that was the average. Means almost half my day is spent fixing things that aren't actually broken. Had a call yesterday for a dryer not heating, and the guy just hadn't cleaned the lint screen in maybe a year. Took me 10 minutes to show him, but I still had to charge the full trip fee. How do you guys handle explaining this to customers without them getting mad? Feels like half my job is just being a teacher now.

Our book club meeting at the old library turned into a shouting match over 'The Silent Patient'

We meet at the downtown branch on Main Street every second Tuesday. Last month, we were about 20 minutes into talking about the big twist in 'The Silent Patient' when two members, Sarah and Mark, just lost it. Sarah said the twist was a cheap trick that made no sense if you thought about it for five seconds. Mark yelled back that she just didn't get the psychology, and he actually threw his copy on the table. It got so loud the librarian had to come over and ask us to keep it down. I used to just try to keep things calm and move on, but that night changed how I run my own group. Now I start every debate by setting a ground rule: you can hate the book, but you have to explain why with a page number. Has anyone else had to set hard rules after a meeting blew up like that?

My neighbor changed my mind about air fryer chicken

I was telling my neighbor, Frank, that my air fryer chicken always came out dry. This was last Tuesday on his porch. He said, 'You're cooking it too hot. Try 375 for 18 minutes, then check it.' I did exactly that and it was the juiciest chicken I've ever made in there. Anyone have a good spice rub for that method?

Choosing between a Monstera deliciosa and a Philodendron gloriosum for my shady corner

Honestly, I had a tough spot in my Portland apartment that only gets about 2 hours of morning light. I picked the Philodendron gloriosum because I read it thrives in lower light and loves to crawl. It's been 3 months and the first new leaf is finally unfurling, which is super exciting. Has anyone else had luck with creeping philos in dim rooms?

Appreciation post: My old man's trick for a stripped screw in a 1970s door hinge

I was trying to fix a squeaky door in my first house (a real fixer-upper in Springfield) and the hinge screw just spun in place, making the whole thing worse. I remembered my dad telling me to pack the hole with a bit of wooden toothpick and a drop of glue, let it dry, and then drive the screw back in, which worked perfectly after a tense half-hour. Anyone have a different go-to fix for a stripped wood screw when you can't just move it over a bit?
