Cracked the ribbon cable on a customer's Nikon last Tuesday, did I do the right thing?

Wait, you got a parts body locally in Fresno that fast, or did you already have one sitting around? That flex snapping clean in half just from lifting it sounds like the cable was already on its way out, not something you really forced. Sourcing the harness and eating the $45 yourself seems fair since the customer got his camera back for Saturday, but I would have told him what happened so he knows for next time.

Pro tip: my neighbor told me to stop parking on a tarp and use a rubber mat instead

Been dealing with the exact same thing on my F150 and always blamed the truck itself, not the tarp lol. Sure enough, pulled the tarp up last month and the concrete underneath was still dark and wet days after a storm. Switched to a cheap rubber mat and the underside has stayed dry since.

My old lead in Fresno told me to stop caulking before paint and I finally get it

The tub crack thing is real and it goes deeper than just the caulk. Same deal with crown molding and baseboards where the wall meets the trim. If you caulk that seam before the wall gets its final coat, the paint dries and shrinks a little and now you got a visible line where the caulk meets paint. On a ceiling that shows bad under a can light. I started doing trim caulk after the first coat, then finish coat over it, and the seams stay tight. Cost me an extra trip but I stopped getting callback texts with pictures of cracks.
