The cook at the Waffle House on Moreland made me move seats at 2am and I finally get why
Stopped in the Waffle House on Moreland Ave around 2am last Friday after a show, and the place was packed like always. I sat down at the counter right by the register, and the cook, older guy with a gray beard, looked at me and said real calm, you don't want that seat tonight. I thought he was messing with me but he pointed at a stool two spots down and I moved. About ten minutes later a drunk couple came in and started screaming at each other right where I had been sitting, and one of them knocked a whole mug of coffee onto that exact spot. The cook never even looked up from the grill, just slid me a fresh plate and said see. I have lived here 12 years and eaten at that Waffle House probably 40 times, and that was the first time I really understood that the folks working the overnight shift know the room better than anybody. They can read who is about to pop off before it happens. Now I always let the cook pick my seat if it's past midnight. Anybody else got a late night spot where the staff looks out for you like that?
