Had a patch of milkweed and goldenrod that kept looking sad. Limp leaves. Yellowing. I was out there every other day with the hose. Neighbor walked by and said 'you know those things grow in ditches right?' Hit me like a brick. Ditches. They get rain and that's it. Cut back to once a week. Everything perked up in like 10 days. Has anyone else killed plants with too much kindness?

Chopped kale or frozen spinach for soup

I had a choice at the store last week between a $3 bunch of fresh kale and a $1 bag of frozen spinach for my lentil soup. I grabbed the kale because I figured fresh is always better. It took me 15 minutes just to wash and chop all those tough stems. Next time I'm going with the frozen spinach, it's cheaper and way less work. Anyone else find that frozen veggies save you time and money?

Honestly, I fought with a brake line on a 2005 Silverado last week in my shop down on Elm Street. The thing was rusted solid, like the fitting was welded to the caliper. I soaked it in PB Blaster for two days and still had to heat it with a torch to break it loose. I was ready to cut the whole line and make a new one from scratch. Then someone told me to try a flaring tool and a nickel copper line instead of steel. Ngl, the nickel copper bent by hand and flared in 5 minutes total. The difference was night and day. Has anyone else switched to nickel copper and seen a huge change in how fast you finish brake jobs?

Tried cheap grocery store roses vs. wholesale this week and the difference blew my mind

I usually grab roses from the grocery store for small arrangements because it's easy. But I finally drove 45 minutes to a wholesale spot in Portland and got 100 stems for $65 instead of $2.50 each. The stems were thicker, the heads were way bigger, and they lasted 12 days in my fridge versus maybe 5 from the store. I did a side by side test with two bouquets for a friend's party and everyone noticed the wholesale ones looked healthier. Has anyone else made the switch and found it worth the extra drive?

The pour was scheduled for 2pm and at 1:45 I spotted a little guy curled up right in the cavity, must have liked the warmth. Has anyone else found weird stuff in their molds before you could get the metal in there?

It was a couple months ago, a rainy Wednesday in March. I got to work and spilled hot coffee all over my white blouse right before a big meeting. Then I realized I had left my laptop charger at home and my battery was at 15 percent. At lunchtime I tried to eat a salad at my desk and ended up dropping a forkful of dressing right on my keyboard. My boss walked by and saw the whole mess. Later that day I stepped in a giant puddle walking to my car and my shoes were soaked for the drive home. It was one of those days where you just have to laugh because crying won't help. Has anyone else had a day where everything just snowballed like that?

Why I stopped babysitting my kraut jars like a nervous parent

Used to open my ferment jars every single day to sniff and poke. Drove myself crazy. Checked for mold like five times a morning. Then I went on a 4 day camping trip last summer. Left a batch of jalapeno kraut totally alone. Came back and it was the best thing I ever made. Perfect tang. No messing with it let the bugs do their thing. Hot take: that new lightweight aluminum shoe is overrated for most horses

I was at a clinic last month in Lexington and this young farrier kept going on about how aluminum shoes are the future for every horse. I get it for racehorses or show jumpers, but for the average trail horse or lesson pony? I've seen too many thin soles and bruised feet from people switching to aluminum just because the big names push it. I shoe about 15 horses a week and maybe 2 of them actually need the weight savings. The rest do fine with a good steel shoe and proper trim. Anyone else finding that lighter doesn't always mean better for the long haul?
