Showerthought: Reusing old pipe sections saved us from tossing tons of steel.

Yeah but "cut down our material waste" isn't always the full story... Sometimes reusing an old, less efficient piece just kicks the can down the road. I've seen old pipe sections patched in that leak more heat or need way more insulation wrap than new stuff would. That extra energy loss over years feels like it could cancel out the good from not throwing it away. Feels like we gotta look at the whole life of the thing, not just keeping it out of the dump today.

Finally grasped how a simple magnet in my pocket finds dropped bolts every time.

Exactly! Magnets do tend to grab all sorts of metal junk. It's annoying when you're just looking for one specific bolt. I've had times where the magnet picked up everything but what I needed. Then you have to clean off all that trash, which adds more work. Plus, if the bolt is stuck under something non-metal, the magnet is useless anyway. Sometimes just getting down and looking carefully is faster and less messy.

Frustrated with overtime, I keep resorting to the same basic air fryer recipe every night.

Last winter, I made a rule to try one new air fryer recipe each week. It helped me look forward to cooking again.

Update: That broken tool we found showed early metalworking techniques.

Totally! I saw a documentary about how they study old Viking swords. Sometimes the ones that failed or broke show the layers of metal they used, which a finished sword hides. You can see exactly how they folded and welded different iron pieces together, something called pattern-welding. A perfect sword just looks like a solid piece, but a flawed one tells you the whole recipe.

Showerthought: Choosing a long layover to save cash just trades money for boring airport hours.

Eight hours isn't forever like @jones.nancy said about Dubai.
