Vent: That prompt about a lying friend really messed with my head

I tried a writing challenge to craft a story where the main character lies to protect someone. It felt icky because I don't like dishonesty. After rewriting it a bunch, I found a way to show her guilt without letting her off the hook. Hitting submit on that draft was a relief. Small victory for sticking with a tough idea.

My friend Chloe once lied to cover for her sister and felt sick about it for weeks.

That's interesting because sometimes the guilt isn't just about the lie itself. It can be about the weird power shift, you know? Like, you're suddenly holding this secret that changes how you see someone, and that feels heavy. It makes the whole relationship feel different for a while.
