Switched to feather razors last month, wish I did it sooner

Been cutting hair at my shop in Austin for about 4 years now and always used the same basic clippers. Last month my barber buddy from Dallas told me to try feather razors for detail work. I was skeptical because I messed up two client's hairlines the first week learning. But now I use them for all my edge work and fades, cuts my finishing time by almost half. Has anyone else made the switch and dealt with that learning curve?

Vent: $200 on a 'pro-grade' mud mixer that burned me bad

Picked up that fancy mixer from the supply house last month, the one with the variable speed and the heavy duty motor. Cost me $200 and I figured it would last years on my crew's jobs. First week it worked fine, mixing buckets of all purpose mud like a champ. Then on a big ceiling job in a basement, the gears started grinding loud and it just seized up. Brought it back to the counter and the guy said warranty doesn't cover 'commercial use' even though it's marketed for pros. Now I'm stuck using my old paddle drill and a cheap chuck mixer that cost $30. Has anyone else had a high end mixer crap out like that on a big mud job?

I found out my grandma's molasses cookie recipe originally called for lard, not butter

I stumbled on a faded 1940s church cookbook at a flea market last month and our family recipe was in there, but it used lard instead of butter. Now I'm wondering if swapping to butter all these years changed the texture way more than I realized. Anybody else ever find an old version of a family recipe and debate sticking with the original or keeping the modern twist?

Last Friday, I watched a couple wait 45 minutes for soggy, lukewarm tacos from the 'popular' truck while I walked right up to the Peruvian chicken truck next to it and got a perfect, hot quarter chicken with green sauce in under 5 minutes. The long line is often just bad logistics, not a sign of quality. I've learned to judge a truck by how fast the line moves and how the food looks coming out, not by how many people are standing there looking bored. Has anyone else found a killer truck with no wait because everyone was stuck in the wrong line?
