Rant: The zipper on my sample jacket gave out during a fitting
I was doing a final fitting on a sample for a new jacket design last Thursday, just before a client meeting. The whole thing was a heavy cotton twill with a cool oversized silhouette, and I was feeling good about it. I went to zip it up on my dress form, and the metal teeth on the main zipper just popped apart about halfway up. Not a pull coming off, the actual teeth separating. I had sourced this 'heavy-duty' zipper from a supplier online for about $12, thinking it was a safe bet. Had to scramble with pliers and thread to do a quick fix, but it looked messy. It totally threw off the clean lines I was going for. Now I'm second-guessing all my hardware choices for the collection. Has anyone found a truly reliable source for sturdy separating zippers that won't fail under a bit of stress?
