Honestly this is so real and yes it happens to everyone. I did the exact same thing with a thrift store DVD set of some old detective show, paid like 12 bucks, watched all of it twice, and now I own a mug and a poster for a show that I'm pretty sure is actually kind of bad. Something about the commitment of buying the whole box makes your brain go "well I guess this is my thing now" and then you're three months deep before you look up. The Stockholm syndrome thing is real too, I still can't tell if my show was good or if I just watched it enough times that it became good to me. My advice is don't fight it, the obsession fades on its own and then you just have a weird box set on your shelf that makes you smile.
