Dropped $85 on a used box set of a show I'd never watched and it turned into my whole personality for 3 months
So about a year ago I'm at this used bookstore in Portland and they had a full box set of an older anime I'd literally never heard of for 85 bucks. The clerk told me it was a "classic" but honestly I think he just wanted it off the shelf because it had been sitting there forever. I bought it on a total whim and figured worst case I'm out 85 bucks and I can resell it. Turns out the thing was 52 episodes and I watched the whole run in like two and a half weeks, which sounds fast until you learn there's a bath house arc that's basically 11 episodes of nothing. I started sketching the main character in my notebook at work, I joined a subreddit for it, I even tracked down a keychain at a con in Seattle. My roommate got so sick of me humming the opening theme that she started leaving the room when it came on. Here's the thing though, I still can't decide if I actually think it's good or if I just Stockholm syndromed myself into loving it. Does that happen to other people or am I just easily tricked by a nice box and a discount?
