A guy at the coffee shop told me my video idea was boring

I was working on a script at The Daily Grind in Austin last week, just talking out loud about a new video. The guy next to me leaned over and said, 'Sorry, but that sounds boring. You need a hook in the first three seconds.' He was blunt, but he was right. I rewrote the whole opening on the spot. Do you think being that direct is helpful or just rude?

My entire astrophotography setup got soaked during a freak storm in Flagstaff last Tuesday

I drove three hours to get to a dark sky site outside Flagstaff, set up my Celestron telescope and camera gear around 8 PM, and got maybe 45 minutes of clear data on the Orion Nebula. Then this wall of rain came out of nowhere, no warning on any app. I had to scramble to get everything under a tarp, but my tracking mount and laptop got completely drenched. It's been a week and the mount still makes a weird grinding noise. Has anyone else had to deal with sudden weather ruining a whole night's work, and how do you even start to dry out electronics like that?

Question about that first 1000-yard roll

I just finished my first job using a full 1000-yard roll of commercial carpet. The weight of it on the truck and the sheer scale of the cuts really hit me. How do you guys handle the logistics for a roll that big, especially on a second-floor install?

My cat got stuck in the kitchen drawer this morning trying to steal a bag of treats.

I was making coffee when I heard the frantic scratching, opened the drawer, and found him wedged between the spatulas and a box of plastic wrap, still clutching the treat bag in his teeth, so what's the weirdest place your pet has gotten themselves trapped?

Can we talk about air fryer chicken wings? I tried a new method last night.

I followed a recipe from a blog that said to cook them at 400 degrees for 20 minutes, but they came out a bit dry. I think I should have tossed them in oil first, or maybe lowered the temp. What's your go-to time and temp for crispy wings?

I spent $75 on a 'premium' writing prompt book and it completely killed my momentum.

Everyone in my local writing group raves about these curated prompt collections, saying they spark genius. I bought 'The Writer's Compass' hoping for a breakthrough. The prompts were all these vague, high-concept things like 'write about a color that has lost its name' or 'a dialogue between two shadows at noon'. After staring at them for a week, I wrote exactly zero words. For me, that kind of abstract prompt is paralyzing. I need something grounded, like 'your character finds an overdue library book checked out to their deceased parent'. That $75 book is just gathering dust. Does anyone else find overly poetic prompts more of a hindrance than a help? What kind of prompt structure actually gets you writing?
