The difference a solid jointer makes on face frames still blows my mind

I built face frames for years using a used benchtop jointer I got for $75. Last month I finally upgraded to a floor model 8 inch machine. The first time I ran a piece of poplar through it, the flitch came out dead flat and ready to glue. I didn't realize how much I was fighting twist and cup until that moment. Has anyone else seen a huge jump in quality just from changing one machine?

Overheard a lady at the park say her Sunday reset takes 6 hours

I was at the playground on Tuesday and this mom was telling her friend she blocks off 6 hours every Sunday to get the house and meals ready for the week. That sounds like a full shift of work to me, not a reset. How do you all handle weekend prep without it eating up your whole day?

I was in a co-working space in Medellin last March and some guy I barely knew said my feed looked like a ad for a resort, not real life. He pointed out I only showed beach views and coffee shop shots, never the boring laundry days or the bad wifi struggles. That hit me hard so I started throwing in messy shots like my cluttered desk or a rainy afternoon rant. Now I get way more comments from people who say my stuff actually feels honest. Anyone else get feedback that forced you to change your online vibe?

Showerthought: Are old bookmarks better than new ones for preserving history?

Honestly I used to think finding a random receipt from 1985 in a library book was way cooler than finding a modern sticky note or a business card. But now I'm starting to question that. A receipt from a grocery store in Omaha in 1985 tells you what people bought and how much it cost, which feels like a time capsule. But a modern bookmark like a handwritten to-do list or a coffee shop loyalty card might actually say more about a person's life right now. Ngl the old stuff feels more rare and special because it survived decades, but the new stuff is what we'll look back on in 30 years and laugh at. What do you think holds more weight for history, the old receipts or the current day scraps? I found a torn napkin with a phone number from 1992 in a used copy of Dune last weekend and it got me thinking about this whole debate.

That nylon carpet seam I tried a new method on and it actually held

I had a job in a big living room in Columbus last month where I needed to seam two pieces of nylon broadloom. My old way of just using tape and a seaming iron would always leave a tiny gap after a few weeks. On a whim I tried that tip from the old-timer at the supply house, using a heat gun on the edges before ironing them together. It's been four weeks and that seam is still invisible and flat, no gap at all. Has anyone else tried pre-warming the edges like that or is that just overkill?

Pro-trim tip: I switched from heavy shears to lighter ones and my hand pain vanished in a week

Yeah that "bad habits" thing really hit home for me. I had this old pair of shears that weighed like a ton and I got so used to twisting my wrist to compensate. When I finally got lighter ones I kept doing the same twist and it actually made things worse because the shears would just slide off the cut. It took me way too long to unlearn that and start using my whole arm instead of just my wrist. Now I tell people to practice their grip on a pair of cheap scissors before upgrading to anything fancy.

My uncle told me bulk rice was always a waste, then I did the math

Did you figure in the time and energy cost of storing and protecting that much rice from pests, though? A 50-pound bag takes up serious space and you have to keep it bone dry or you're basically running a weevil farm. Also weird question, but do you portion it out or just scoop from the bag every time? I've always wondered if people actually repackage bulk stuff into smaller containers or just leave it in the original bag and hope for the best.
