My cat's new 'toy' was a two-hour ordeal to retrieve

So my cat, Beans, decided today's big adventure was getting a hair tie stuck on the ceiling fan blade. I have no idea how she got it up there, but I came home to her staring at the fan like it owed her money. I spent the next two hours trying to get it down without dismantling the whole thing, which involved a broom, a step stool, and a lot of failed attempts to hook it. I finally got it by taping a coat hanger to a yardstick, which felt like a major engineering win. Beans just watched the whole time, then walked away when I finally got it, completely uninterested. In my experience, cats are experts at creating problems they have zero interest in solving. Has anyone else's pet gotten something stuck in a truly ridiculous place?

I mean, I used to just shove my food in a regular bag and it was always lukewarm or weird by noon. This thing keeps my stuff actually cold for my whole shift, which is huge when you're moving furniture all day. Anyone have a good brand for ice packs that don't leak?

A professor in my design class said something that still bugs me.

We were in a critique in Chicago last spring. I showed a jacket with big, bold shoulders. He said 'drama is dead, clean lines are everything now.' Just shut it down. I figured those $15 'refurbished' routers from the surplus store were junk

My old one died and I grabbed a cheap one from the surplus place on 5th Street. It looked pretty beat up. I set it up expecting it to fail in a week, but it's been running my whole apartment for 8 months now without a single drop. The guy at the counter said they test them, but I didn't believe him. Question about tomato cages in my Seattle garden

In my experience, everyone around here uses those flimsy cone cages from the big box store and then wonders why their plants fall over by August. I switched to building my own from concrete wire mesh, a 5 foot tall cylinder with 6 inch squares, and my plants doubled their yield last season. It matters because a strong support lets the plant focus on fruit, not just staying upright. Has anyone else tried a different homemade cage design that worked for them?

I used to think talking to strangers on the bus was pointless

I mean, for years I'd just put my headphones on and stare out the window. Then about 8 months ago, this older woman sat next to me and asked about the book I was reading. We talked for the whole 20-minute ride into downtown. She ended up being a retired librarian and gave me a list of three authors I'd never heard of. Now I actually look up from my phone sometimes, and I've had a few cool little chats since then. It's weird how a random 20 minutes can change your habit like that. Has anyone else had a small talk moment that actually stuck with you?
