When I first started, I'd lock in a flight to, say, Bangkok like 4 months early, thinking I was saving cash. After a year, I noticed prices often dropped 2-3 weeks before takeoff if you're flexible. Last month, I got a one-way to Lisbon for $350 by booking just 10 days out. The old way felt safe, but this lets me chase better weather or a sudden cool meetup. Tbh, I've watched three different divers in the last year waste 30 minutes on a bottom time because they didn't verify their wrench sizes before splashing. Anyone else have a hard rule about this?

Tried using a Bundt pan for my grandma's pound cake recipe

I baked it at 350 degrees for the usual hour, but the center was completely raw while the outside was overdone. Turns out my old pan from a thrift store in Tacoma is a dark metal one, which bakes way hotter than the light aluminum the recipe assumed. Has anyone else had to adjust baking times just because of the color of their pan?

Update: I finally got the intermittent comms fault on that Gulfstream G280 to show itself by leaving the system powered and just gently flexing the harness behind the overhead panel for 20 minutes straight.

Honestly, I was about to start swapping LRUs after two days of chasing ghosts, but my lead at the Dallas hangar told me to just 'wiggle it with the juice on' and bam, the static popped right up on the test set.

Tried a different way to clean those tiny fiber optic connectors on a Garmin G500 unit.

We had a G500 with a weak signal fault, and the usual cleaning sticks weren't cutting it. I had a box of those single-use lens wipes for my glasses, the kind soaked in alcohol. I figured, why not? I tore off a tiny corner, wrapped it around the stick, and gave the connector end face a gentle wipe. Checked it under the scope and it was spotless, better than any dry clean I'd done. The signal strength jumped right into the green. I guess the little bit of fluid helped lift the oil film the dry sticks were just smearing around. I'm not saying it's the new standard, but for stubborn, oily contamination on those little ends, it worked a treat. Has anyone else tried something like this, or is it a fast track to getting yelled at by the shop lead?

I finally bought a laser level for tile work and it was worth every penny

I spent about $350 on a decent rotary laser level about three months ago. I was doing a big kitchen floor with large format tile and kept having trouble keeping my lines straight over the whole room. The laser let me set a perfect reference line across the entire space in under a minute. It cut my layout time in half and the final floor looks way better, with no lippage. I used to think they were a luxury, but now I won't start a tile job without it. For those who use them, do you have a favorite brand or model that holds up on site?

DAE ever use a regular drill bit on a masonry wall in a pinch?

I was in a tight spot on a job in Spokane last Tuesday (forgot my hammer drill) and tried using a standard bit with a lot of pressure, which actually worked on the old brick but completely wrecked the bit and took about 15 minutes for one hole, so what's your go-to backup method when the right tool isn't around?

DAE get annoyed when people call any star photo 'astrophotography'?

A shot of the Big Dipper from your phone is not astrophotography, it's a snapshot, and it matters because it devalues the actual work of stacking and processing. How many of you have a clear line between a simple photo and actual astrophotography?
