Old Pentax repair guy at a swap meet taught me a trick with a razor blade

I was at the Rose Bowl flea market in Pasadena about 2 months ago. Found a beat up Pentax K1000 with a stuck mirror. Guy running the booth said $20 as-is. This older gentleman next to me grabs it, pulls out a single-edge razor blade, and flips the mirror back into place in like 30 seconds. He told me the foam bumpers degrade and just stick the mirror down. I asked him how he knew. Said he worked at a camera shop in Santa Monica for 40 years. I bought the camera and the blade. Fixed it right up at home. Has anyone else dealt with sticky mirror foam on those old Pentaxes? What do you use to clean off the residue?

Ran into an old coworker at a gas station who changed my view on chemtrails

I was filling up at the Shell on Highway 41 last Tuesday when a guy I used to frame houses with back in 2008 walked up. He pointed at the sky and said "you notice those lines never show up over rural farmland?" and then just walked off. I never really thought about chemtrails much before that, but it got me wondering if there's a pattern nobody talks about. Has anyone else had a random encounter like that that made you second guess everything?

Rant: Spent 4 hours figuring out why my card sleeves didn't fit

I bought a new board game last weekend and ordered sleeves for it online. The pack said they were the right size for the cards, but half of them were too tight and bent the corners. Turns out the game company changed their card dimensions by 2mm between print runs. Has anyone else run into this sizing mess with newer games?

Swapped my knee kicker for a power stretcher six months back and it saved my back on a big commercial job.

I used to rely on my knee kicker for every room, even the wide ones. Took about three hours to get a 20x15 foot office hallway flat. Then a buddy talked me into renting a power stretcher for a 40 foot long corridor. Cut the time in half and my knee didn't ache for days after. Has anyone else switched and noticed a big difference on wide open spaces?

The $12 harbor freight dent puller I was dead wrong about

I spent years talking trash about those cheap slide hammer dent pullers from Harbor Freight. Buddy of mine brought one over to fix a door ding on his 2017 F150 and I figured it would snap after one pull. Turns out the thing actually works pretty decent for shallow dents if you drill the hole right and use the right tip. Has anyone else had good luck with cheap tools that you thought would be junk?

That old framer at the supply yard told me to stop using my nail gun for everything

He watched me nail off a temporary brace and said 'son, that gun is a tool, not a cure-all.' I switched to using screws for any joint that might get adjusted later, and it saved me from ripping out a whole wall in a remodel last spring. Anyone else get called out by an old timer for overusing a specific tool?

That moment I realized I was spreading misinformation about the moon landing for years

I used to be that person who swore the Apollo 11 footage was faked based on some YouTube video about the flag waving. Then last month I actually sat down and watched the full 1969 press conference with Neil Armstrong where he explained the flag had a wire frame. It hit me that I was parroting something without checking the primary source. Anyone else ever have that wake-up call where you realize you were the one who was wrong the whole time?

I used to cram three different habit trackers into the margins of my weekly spreads, and it got so cluttered I couldn't even find my sleep log. Last fall I switched to a dedicated monthly page with just four colors for exercise, water, reading, and meds - has anyone else simplified their tracker setup and seen it stick better?

I was in Corktown last weekend and the amount of construction on Michigan Ave is wild

I mean, I knew things were moving fast, but I counted at least 4 major commercial sites being worked on between 14th and 18th. One of them, that old two-story brick building, looked like they were gutting it completely. It got me thinking, with all this new retail and office space coming online in the next year, what's the plan to fill it all? Are rents going to jump again? Anyone else seeing this kind of pace in their neighborhood?
