Update: finishing The Bear season 2 took me 6 months and 4 restarts, and I still say the popular pick for best episode is wrong
Honestly I need to get this off my chest because it feels like everyone watched this show in one weekend and I could not do it. What kept tripping me up was the Fishes episode, the one with all the family yelling at dinner. Everyone I know says it is the best hour of TV in years, but it took me 4 separate tries to get through it because the fighting in that kitchen hit way too close to how my own family acts at holidays. My brother kept saying just skip it, it is fine, so I did that once and then felt like I missed half the season because every later scene pulls from that dinner. It ended up taking me from January to June to wrap the whole thing, which sounds nuts for a show with 18 episodes. The part that bugs me is people act like if you did not love Fishes you did not get the show, and I got it fine, I just did not enjoy sitting through it. Forks is the real standout for me, the one where he stages at that other restaurant, because it is the only episode where somebody actually grows instead of just screaming. Did Fishes land for anyone else the first time, or did you have to push through it too?
