inI was reading the 2023 NEC and found something about AFCI requirements that blew my mind
Yeah I noticed this same thing reading through the new code too. It feels like every few years they add another layer to these rules and pretty soon every outlet in the house will need its own special breaker. The thing that gets me is these changes seem to come from some big safety study in a lab somewhere, not from what actually happens in real houses day to day. My guess is most inspectors are still figuring out how strict to be with it, so I'd call the local building office before swapping everything out. Just seems like another way they keep pushing up the cost of new builds for minimal real world benefit.

inTook me 5 years to notice the difference switching to a dedicated grinder for my morning coffee at home
My buddy did a blind test with his blade grinder against my burr one using the same beans and water temp, and even he picked out the smoother cup every single time. It's not magic, it's just that a uniform grind keeps you from getting bitter fines one sip and watery chunks the next. If you're happy with your setup that's totally fine, but if you ever borrow someone's burr grinder for a weekend you might notice the difference for yourself.

inSaw a trucker reading a book in a 40-minute traffic jam on I-75 last Tuesday
Are they really reading though or just listening to stuff to pass the time @mark_mitchell? Seems like a big leap from that to saying they're "well read.

inGot burned by bad advice on a fridge compressor swap in Phoenix
Man that's brutal. I had a similar thing happen with a home AC unit in Phoenix where a dude on a forum told me to just bypass the capacitor on a Goodman condenser because it was "overkill" for the system. Compressor ran maybe 30 seconds then started smoking. Had to replace the whole unit basically, cost me like $800 and a full Saturday. Now I don't trust anything unless I see it in the actual manual or a video from someone with credentials.

inGrandma's secret pie crust taught me a lesson about lard vs. butter
Grandma knew real cooking, not this fake vegan stuff.
