Yikes, ketchup on ice cream is a hard no for me. I get that people love salty sweet stuff, but tomato and vanilla just do not go together in my mouth. The line for me is whether both things still taste good after they mix, and cold sweet tomato does not pass that test. Your cousin might just be messing with everyone for the reaction honestly.
