Guy who bought my old timing light asked why I kept the box, and it made me rethink my whole tool bench
Sold my old timing light to a kid last Saturday for $30, and when he handed me the cash he asked why I still had the original box and manual. I laughed and said I just never throw that stuff out, but later it hit me that half my bench is stuff I keep for no real reason. I've got three 10mm sockets I never use and a busted compression tester I've moved to two apartments. Spent an hour clearing it out and found a brake bleeder I forgot I bought in 2019. How do you all decide what tools are worth keeping when you only touch them once a year?
What made you finally pick up that brake bleeder and use it, or did you just toss it in the end? I'm asking because that's the part I always get stuck on. In my experience the stuff that sits for years either gets used once out of panic or never at all, and it's hard to know which until you're under a car at 9pm. So did clearing it out actually change how you buy tools going forward, or was it just a one time purge? Take this with a grain of salt but I bet half of us would just buy the same junk again anyway.
