Handling a split tree limb: cable or cut it down?

You did the right thing with that close look before cabling. Saving a major limb with cable can be worth it if the tree is healthy and the split isn't too far gone. Just keep an eye on it, because sometimes the damage is worse than it looks and removal becomes the only safe call later.

Appreciation post: My cash envelope system for model trains is a solid win, but apps have their perks. Which camp are you in?

Disagree with that, honestly. Cash feels real in your hand (you can't ignore it like an alert). Those apps mean well, but they just add more screen time to my day. I tried a bunch and always went back to pulling out bills for stuff like train fare. Something about watching the money leave your wallet makes you think twice.

Struggled with erratic engine readings for weeks before spotting a faulty sensor connection.

How many times have I chased a ghost problem only to find it was a loose wire? That's why checking connectors is always my first move now, before I even start deep troubleshooting. A slightly dirty connection or one that's just a hair loose can send you down a crazy path. Those simple fixes are always the most satisfying, right?

Over-detailing blueprints feels like pointless busywork.

Honestly, I see your point about it feeling like busywork. But tbh, those small details aren't always pointless. They can stop big mistakes on site that cost more time to fix later. The problem might be putting in too much detail that doesn't help the builders. Maybe the team didn't know how to use that info, so it felt wasted. You gotta find a balance so the drawings are useful without slowing things down.

My backcountry battery fail turned me into a map purist

Actually, paper maps aren't always out of date if you bother to buy the new edition every few years. The real headache is that even a fresh map can't tell you about the accident blocking the highway right now. You just sit there in dead traffic with your perfect, silent map. My phone would have rerouted me ten minutes ago.
