Warning: dropped $50 on a hardware key for my laptop and it saved me from a $2,000 mistake
Bought a YubiKey for around $50 after my roommate got locked out of his email for a week and had to call support 4 times to prove he was him. Last month someone in Manila tried to log into my Gmail with a password they grabbed from an old breach, and the key blocked it cold since they had no way to tap the button. What's the cheapest piece of gear that ended up saving you the most hassle?
Oh man, I totally used to roll my eyes at those keys, figured it was just tech guys being extra. Then my cousin got her whole bank account drained and now I'm sitting here wondering why I didn't grab one sooner. Fifty bucks to dodge that kind of headache seems like a no brainer now.
