The boss who yelled at me for asking a question about a delivery route

My buddy Mark tried to tell his foreman about a faster way to get to a job site once. He'd been driving that route for 10 years, knew every pothole and light cycle. Foreman told him to shut up and follow the GPS on the company truck. GPS took them down a dirt road that ended at a locked gate. Had to turn around on a narrow patch, almost got stuck in a ditch. Mark still brings it up at every cookout.

My golden retriever stole a whole pizza off the counter today

Oh man, that's rough but I gotta say, dogs don't actually feel guilt the way we do. That look you're calling guilty is more like them reacting to your upset tone and body language. They're just reading the room, not feeling bad about the pizza. In my experience with my own lab mix, that "guilty" face is really just them being confused or a little worried because you're mad. So don't feel too bad, your pup probably thought he found a lucky pizza buffet on the floor and didn't understand why you were grumpy about it.

Vent: My wife laughed at me for keeping a 5 year old receipt book, but it caught a $47 billing error at our local hardware store yesterday.

I stuck with the basics and it paid off.

Old timer told me to stop stretching against the grain and I fought him on it for 2 years

72 and I still remember Bob the old timer in Cincinnati who showed me the same trick on a heavy commercial carpet. He just stood there smoking a cigarette while I fought that stretch for ten minutes before he finally said "you're going against the weave, son." Changed my whole approach after that day.

That neighbor who gave me bean plants changed my whole approach

The real game changer with those pole beans is how they fix nitrogen in the soil. Helen’s grandmother probably knew that but didn't say it. Those roots pull nitrogen from the air and store it in little nodules, so your soil actually gets better while the beans grow. I planted corn right where my beans were last year and it came up twice as tall as the other patch. That's the kind of free soil improvement you can't buy at the garden center.
