Mixed some leftover shellac with a bit of boiled linseed oil on a whim

I was cleaning up the shop and had maybe a quarter cup of old amber shellac left, so I added a splash of BLO to see if it would help with a sticky drawer slide. It didn't just lubricate it, it left this really nice, subtle sheen on the maple that I wasn't expecting at all. Has anyone else ever messed around with a shellac and oil blend like that, and what did you use it for?

PSA: A guy at my register last night insisted his $100 bill was 'legal tender for all debts' when I couldn't break it.

It was about 9 PM and we were low on big bills in the drawer. I told him the total was $12 and I didn't have enough change. He started getting loud, quoting that line from the bill itself... Now, I do a 15-minute play session with him right before I leave for work at 7 AM. The sock thefts have dropped to maybe once a week, but he still looks at my sock drawer like it's a treasure chest. I was at a coffee shop in Portland yesterday, working on a project, and the guy at the next table was on a phone call. He said, loud and clear, 'Yeah, I just need a quick logo, nothing fancy, maybe a couple hundred bucks.' I mean, idk, maybe it's just me but that hit hard. I've been doing freelance graphic design for about two years now, and I used to jump at those 'quick' jobs because I needed the cash. But they always end up taking way longer than you think, with tons of revisions, and you feel totally underpaid. That one comment made me realize I need to stop letting clients set the value of my work. I'm thinking of setting a flat minimum project fee of $800, no matter how 'simple' they say it is. Has anyone else made a big change to their pricing after something small like that?
