Tried cold brewing with my french press and got pure mud water

Exactly, cold brew should be smooth not sour. Steeping that long just pulls out all the bitter junk you're trying to avoid. Stick to 12 hours max and you're golden.

My broker warned me not to buy a building in the Milwaukee Junction area back in 2021

Ha, yeah I've been there. My own realtor told me buying in the Milwaukee Junction area was a dumb move back in 2021, said I'd never find tenants. I went through with it anyway because the price was stupid low, and now I've got three tenants paying me steady rent and the place appraised way higher than I paid. Sometimes you just gotta trust your gut and ignore the folks who'd rather play it safe.

That $80 dice tower I bought off Etsy was a complete dud

Did your friend file a claim? I had a buddy get a similar handcrafted tower from some seller and it arrived warped and the stain was uneven, he got a partial refund after sending photos. He just uses a plastic tube now and says it works fine, the cheap ones actually hold up better than you'd think.

That random moment I found out old Leicas use a different thread pitch than I thought

The Dayton area has some great estate sales for camera stuff, I've found a few weird pieces there myself. @raymitchell is right about Whitworth threads being a pain, I messed up a Compur shutter once that had them and it was a nightmare to fix. That 26 TPI on those old Leicas is a real trap, especially since the mounts look identical until you try to force them. I bet a lot of people have damaged their gear that way without realizing it until it's too late.

I called bullshit on buying dried beans but damn I was wrong

gotta disagree here lol. canned beans are way more consistent and i don't have to plan a day ahead just to have beans for dinner. plus that slimy liquid is actually useful for thickening stuff like soups and stews, gives it a nice velvety texture.
