I've been browsing Chatter Lounge for about 2 years but rarely posted. Hit exactly 1000 posts read last night around 11pm, which is a random number my stats plugin showed me. Realized the people who actually comment get way more out of the discussions than I ever did just reading. Has anyone else found a threshold number where they started participating more?

Switched from paper filter to metal mesh and my mornings got weird

I had to pick between a paper filter and a metal mesh one for my pour over. Went with the mesh because I hate buying stuff over and over (you know, waste). First cup was super oily and gritty, almost like cowboy coffee. After about 2 weeks I got used to it, but honestly I still miss that clean taste paper gives you. Anyone else try this and switch back?

AV-8B harness repair that keeps tripping people up

I was helping a buddy troubleshoot a nav system fault last Thursday on a Harrier. Three other guys had already looked at it and swapped the box. Turned out someone had repaired a chafed wire in the harness but used the wrong gauge replacement. The resistance difference was small but enough to mess with the signal. Has anyone else run into issues from mismatched wire gauges in critical harness repairs?

Cracked a boiler tube right before a pressure test, had to back purge the whole section again

Was doing a retube job over in Gary last week on an old Cleaver Brooks unit, got everything welded up and then found a hairline crack near the backsheet while doing the visual. Had to cut out three tubes and redo them because the crack ran into the adjacent ones from the heat stress. Took me most of the afternoon to back purge and re weld, definitely learned to check my fit up more careful before laying beads. Any other boilermakers run into tube cracking from poor alignment?
