That curl of braid across the center pin is such a small thing to kill a whole Saturday, and Roger probably ate lunch alone for weeks while you gave him grief about a brush. I've had the same deal with old timers telling me to torque to spec instead of guessing, and the one time I skipped it I was back at the same panel two days later. The annoying ones are usually right, which is the worst part.

inPin hole leaks in a 20 year old feedwater tank, found after a blowdown
Laughing at myself because I've got a whole collection of "temporary" patches on my own equipment that are practically load bearing at this point. But yeah, that's the classic trap with these tanks, they look solid right up until they don't. In my experience, once you find one pinhole along a weld seam, it's like they're all lined up waiting for their turn. The way I look at it, if the bottom head is showing that kind of wear, the rest of the tank is probably not far behind, so you made the right call biting the bullet on that replacement. I've learned the hard way that a blown feedwater tank at 2am costs way more than a planned swap during a normal shift.
