inDropped $400 on a borescope last year, and now I can't decide if it was the best or worst buy of my career
The "now I can see every little nick and scratch" part is the real story here, and it's not just scopes. Same thing happened when I got a good flashlight, suddenly every corner of my garage looked like it needed fixing. Same with people who buy a moisture meter and start finding "problems" in every wall of the house. The tool didn't change the building, it changed what you can notice. A $400 scope showing you a cracked blade is real value because that crack was always there, you just couldn't see it before. The trap is when seeing more makes you think every flaw needs action, when most of them were fine for years and would've stayed fine. So the scope isn't making you slower, your judgment is just catching up to your eyes, and that part takes time.

inI finally stopped buying $6 lunch sandwiches and started packing leftovers from home
Oh man, I feel this so much. I started doing the same thing a couple months ago and now cold sandwiches just make me sad.

inWarning: watching my neighbor's recycling bin for 3 weeks changed how I sort mine
My old roommate Dana used to crush her cans with her foot before tossing them and I thought it was so extra until I saw her bin on move out day. She had two months of stuff in there and it was only halfway full while my bin was stuffed after two weeks. I started doing the same thing with cans and also breaking down cereal boxes instead of shoving them in whole. Cut my trips to the curb way down, like from every week to every other week. The rinsing part matters too because sticky jars make everything clump up and take way more room than they should.
