PSA: I tried a 'finish nailer only' approach on a cabinet face frame and the glue did more work than the nails

Last week I decided to skip the pocket screws on a face frame job for a kitchen in Austin, just used glue and a 16 gauge finish nailer. The frame came out looking clean but after letting it sit overnight, I found the joints were pulling apart at the corners. Turned out the nails weren't holding the miters tight enough while the glue dried. Learned that I still need clamps or pocket screws for those mitered corners, no way around it. Has anyone else found a trick to make nailers work better on mitered frames?

Hit 10,000 rivets installed today and my index finger is screaming

Been tracking my builds for the last 3 years and somehow crossed 10,000 rivets installed on a single project this morning. That's a lot of aluminum chips and cursing under my breath. Has anyone else ever kept a running count of something dumb like this or am I just bored?

Small win at the Packard Plant site this week

I've been poking around the old Packard Plant area for months looking at a few parcels. Finally got a signed letter of intent from a small manufacturing tenant who wants to lease 5,000 square feet. The broker on the other side actually remembered me from a networking event six months ago and that connection sealed it. Has anyone else had luck with long shot follow-ups in Detroit turning into real deals?

Just hit 500 paint jobs on my car today

I kept a log since 2018. That's 500 cars I've painted start to finish. Didn't realize it piled up that fast. Most were small repaints on older cars. But still. 500 feels like a real number. How many jobs do you guys log before you feel like you've really made it?

Serious question, why did no one tell me my basil was bolting until it was too late?

I was at my community garden plot last August after a 12 hour shift and found my basil had gone to seed with these tiny white flowers everywhere, so I spent 45 minutes pinching them all off and only got half the harvest I expected, has anyone else had a plant just suddenly turn on you without warning?

My old boss in Tampa told me to never use zip ties on a main panel's main power feed, and he was right after I saw one melt through on a job last month.

What's your go-to for securing those heavy gauge wires instead of plastic ties?

Vent: My neighbor told me a weird fact about our street name at a block party

At our neighborhood cookout in May, my neighbor Frank mentioned our street, Maple Drive, was almost called 'Skunk Hollow Road' back in the 1950s. He found the old town planning notes in the library's local history section. I had no idea and just stood there holding a paper plate, not knowing what to say. Has anyone else learned a totally random fact about where they live from an unexpected source?

I keep seeing guys on the job skip the full 5-minute pre-dive checklist and it's a huge mistake.

We had a diver on the Gulfport harbor job last month get his comms line snagged on a piling because he rushed the gear check, and it cost the team over two hours of downtime in freezing water. What's one safety step you'll never skip, even when the foreman is pushing for speed?

Spent $500 on a Chamber of Commerce membership, feels like a total waste.

They promised leads and connections, but it's just a monthly lunch. I went three times and only talked to insurance agents. Anyone know a better way to meet real clients here?
