Totally, it's sneaky how it happens over time. I've had ethernet cables get a permanent kink that messed with the connection inside. Even speaker wire can have its insulation split from being strapped down too hard. Once that outer layer goes, you're just asking for a short circuit later on. It's one of those things you don't notice until it's already broken.

Oh man, we just have a soft spot for messy choices I guess. We talked about how the character's own terrible past meant she never learned a better way to handle things. And the "good" option would have meant leaving her sister totally helpless. So it felt less like a evil plan and more like the only bad door she saw in a room full of worse ones. But hey, my judgment is also why I tried to fix a garbage disposal with a butter knife last year.
