Question about clearing tree roots from our creek dredge site

Our local council hired us to dredge Miller's Creek after last spring's floods. The bottom has decades-old tree roots from eroded banks. When we run the dredge, roots wrap around the cutter and stall the engine. I got tired of pulling it apart, so I rigged up a coarse steel mesh from an old fence panel. I bolted it to the front of the suction head. It catches roots over an inch thick but lets silt through. We clean it a few times a day, and it has cut our cleanup time in half. Maybe this could help others in woody areas.

Scanned my old X-Men comics for a friend, now I'm unsure if it was okay

I own a bunch of early X-Men issues from the 1970s that are pretty rare. My buddy across the country really wanted to read them, so I decided to scan them and email the files. But after doing it, I started to feel bad about maybe breaking copyright rules. I know artists and writers should get paid for their work, but this was just for one friend. Still, it feels like a gray area because I shared them without permission. Have other fans dealt with this kind of situation? I'd love to hear how you handle sharing comics digitally with pals.

Teaching a greenhorn to spot a seam issue reminded me of my early days

We were on a job for a small heating unit last week. Back when I began, we relied a lot on feel and sound to find problems. Now, we have simple vibration tools that point stuff out easy. The kid used one and caught a bad seam before it got worse. Seeing him get it right with the new tools made me smile. It's a small thing, but it shows how the trade keeps improving. That kind of win makes all the hard days worth it.
