Fence build advice from next door: helpful or overstepping?

I'm putting up a new fence in my yard, and my neighbor has been sharing lots of design tips. Some friends say I should value his experience, but others think I should just do what I want since it's my home. How do you handle input from neighbors on your DIY projects?

That "you're the one living with it" part really hits home. I used to brush off that kind of advice, but having to actually deal with the consequences made me get it.
