Vent: Overheard a designer call pockets 'ruining the line' of a dress
I was at a fabric store in Portland and a woman told her friend that adding pockets to a formal gown 'ruins the silhouette' and is only for casual wear. I think this is a silly rule that puts looks over function. What's a smart way to design pockets that keep a clean shape?

Pockets belong in everything, you just have to hide them in the seams.

Read that Japanese designers hide pockets in kimono seams, @lucasw82.

Totally agree with that. Saw what @keithbutler said about kimonos and it just makes sense. Good design should be smart, not obvious. Hiding a pocket in a seam is just clever problem solving. It’s like a little secret for your stuff.
