Heard a neighbor say her 1950s house still has the original plaster walls and it got me thinking

Used to think people were crazy for keeping old plaster. Thought it was just outdated stuff that cracks and crumbles. But after helping my aunt sell her 1954 house with original plaster, I totally changed my mind. That stuff was solid as a rock. No nail pops ever. No corner cracks. The contractors who did the inspection even commented on how much better it holds up than modern drywall. Meanwhile my 1998 house has a new crack every time the wind blows. You are right that we traded durability for speed and cost.

Everyone hypes 5-episode rule for slow starters, I dropped a show after 24 episodes

Yeah that's fair, @cole356 had me second-guessing myself but honestly this made me totally rethink my whole approach to new shows.

Kicked myself for buying a $80 power stretcher without checking first

yep, learned that lesson the hard way too. honestly the cheap ones are basically just toy versions of the real tool. if you're doing more than one room, rent a legit one from sunbelt or home depot for like $20 a day and save yourself the headache.

Showerthought: My old air fryer basket finally gave out after 4 years of near daily use

$30 for 48 wings? That stings almost as bad as losing them. I don't blame you for going the parchment route, I'd do the same thing after watching that much good food go in the trash. What is it with these baskets shedding metal flakes like some kind of rusty monster? Makes you wonder if they even test these things before selling them.

Rant: That seized Pentax lens I almost threw in the trash

Oh man, that's such a great save! My buddy had an old Takumar that was completely seized up, he'd given up and even bought a replacement lens. Then a friend told him to try a light tap with a wood dowel while it was warm, and it popped right loose after minutes.
