My professor insisted that using a monochromatic palette for my fall collection was a lazy design choice, but after selling out at a pop-up in Austin, I'm starting to think he was totally wrong.
He said it would look boring and flat, but focusing on texture and silhouette within a single color family actually made the pieces feel more cohesive and high-end, so what's the real deal with color theory versus market success?

Wasn't there a famous designer who only used like, three colors total?

I used to agree with him, but your success proves cohesion sells.

Honestly, "cohesion sells" is true, but it can also make everything look the same after a while. A strict color rule might stop you from trying something that could really stand out. Tbh, sometimes breaking your own system is what gets people talking.
