A client in Tulsa told me to just 'swap the motherboard' on every PC that boots slow.
I had to explain that a $400 part and two hours of labor isn't a fix, it's a waste. How do you handle customers who think they know more than you do?

Ever hear the one my friend told me about?

But what if the motherboard really is the problem? I see what @the_nathan is saying, but sometimes a simple swap is the fastest fix.

The "swap the motherboard" line is a classic. I find the real issue is they've heard one tech term and now think it's a magic bullet. My move is to ask them to walk me through their reasoning. It usually falls apart fast, and then we can actually talk about real fixes like checking for startup programs or a dusty heatsink.
