Rant: That MISSED bus led to meeting my now biking buddy
I missed the bus last Tuesday and ended up walking home with a stranger. We got talking and now we bike together on weekends, which is GREAT for my mood. Has a simple mix-up ever brought a good person into your life?

Carry a basic bike tool in your bag or pocket. A simple multi-tool lets you offer a quick fix if you see someone struggling with a loose bolt or chain. That small act of help is a natural, low-pressure way to start a chat with a fellow rider. It turns a routine stop into a chance to make a new connection.

I'd feel weird pulling out tools on a stranger though.

Got completely lost trying to find a new trailhead last spring and stopped at a diner to ask for directions. Ended up sharing a piece of pie with the older gentleman at the next booth, who turned out to be a lifelong resident. He drew me a better map on a napkin and now we meet at that same diner every month so he can tell me stories about the town. Funny how a wrong turn can do that.
