I finally figured out how to get the break room microwave to stop beeping like a smoke alarm.
After a month of everyone jumping every time a bag of popcorn finished, I tried holding the '2' button for 5 seconds, a trick my old captain showed me for silencing a different annoying beep, and now our 3 PM snack time is actually peaceful.

Robert asked about other buttons. On our old office fridge, you had to press the "Light" and "Temp Up" buttons together for three seconds to turn off the door alarm. The coffee maker beep could be killed by holding "Brew" for like ten seconds until it blinked. It's all about just holding random combos down until something gives up.

My buddy's old car had this key fob that would beep if you left the lights on. He found out if you pressed lock and unlock together three times fast, it would just give up and shut up. He showed me and it sounded like some secret handshake for electronics.
