My plywood supplier in Naperville jacked up prices by 40% overnight last month

Buying in bulk from a wholesaler is the move, especially when local prices get stupid like that.

Realized the difference between using a drill and a hand ratchet on rail brackets

Man, I feel this SO hard. I once spent a solid 45 minutes with a hand ratchet on a single bolt under my sink, getting all red in the face and bruised knuckles. Finally my neighbor came over, took one look, and handed me his cordless drill. It was off in about four seconds. I felt like an absolute TOOL for not just walking to the hardware store to buy one sooner. Now I just laugh at my younger self who thought manual was the way to go for everything.

Warning: My grandma's old cast iron skillet finally convinced me about soap

Whoa wait hold on, you actually used soap on it and it turned out better? That goes against everything I've ever heard about cast iron.

Is the Downtown Edmonton Farmers Market getting too pricey for vendors?

$150 a day for a spot that's basically a card table and a pop-up tent sounds like they're charging for the parking, not the market. For that price the baker better be getting free samples and a handshake from a mayor. Guess the "local charm" now includes a side of financial regret.

Last Tuesday was my best dinner week ever

My buddy Mark told me once that the best meals come from using up what you already have, and your Tuesday pasta sounds like proof of that. There's something about that Tuesday night where you're not trying to impress anyone, just feeding yourself with whatever is hanging around, and it turns out perfect. I think that's how a lot of good things in life work - they happen when you stop forcing them and just go with what's there. You had that roast chicken momentum, then the fridge veggies were practically begging to be used, and your wife's compliment just sealed the whole thing. Those weeks remind you that cooking doesn't have to be complicated to be great.
