inAppreciation post: the barista at Java Joe's in Des Moines swapped my usual dark roast for a light Ethiopian pour over
Oh man, here's a thing nobody talks about: the cup itself can trick your brain. I drank the same mug every day for like two years and swore the coffee was getting worse. Turns out the mug had a weird coating wearing off and it was messing with the taste the whole time. Switched to a plain glass one and my normal roast suddenly tasted way better. So part of your rut might not even be the beans, it could be your whole setup at home holding the flavor back.

inI ditched the push broom for a rotary after 11 years, what took me so long?
Did you have the same reaction I did, thinking a rotary brush was just a gimmick for people with money to burn? I dragged my feet for years too, but seeing how much time and wear it saves, I finally get why folks swear by them.

inA 30 year hand in Gary told me to quit rushing my tube rolling and I didn't listen, cost me 16 tubes
Sounds like Ray was doing you a favor and you just had to learn it the hard way, huh. Nothing like eating two days of overtime and 16 dead tubes to really drive the lesson home. But hey, at least you got a good story out of it, and Ray got to feel like a wise old owl for a week. For real though, the torque thing is the tell. On most rollers you can feel it in your hands when it stops pulling and starts just spinning, that little hum change. If you're leaning on the gun you'll never feel it, you're too busy fighting the tool instead of listening to it.
