inWhy I think spending big on a greenlee 555 is a waste
900 bucks for a bender that sits in the truck.

inDebate: Are those fancy post hole diggers worth it or just a waste?
I read somewhere that the expensive ones are actually designed more for production work than daily abuse, which kinda tracks with your handle breaking. The cheap ones dent but the pricey ones just snap in a different way, you know?

inFound a trick to keep mortar from drying out too fast on hot days
Damn that's a good tip! I read somewhere that masons back in the 1800s would soak their bricks in water before laying them on hot days too, keeps the mortar from sucking out all the moisture. I think it's the same idea with the burlap, just slows everything down enough to actually work with it. I've always just mixed small batches when it's hot but that gets old real fast when you're stopping every ten minutes to clean your tools. I'm gonna try that burlap trick next time I'm out in the heat.

inThat one referral group I joined in March completely turned around my client flow by June
Six months is a long time to stick it out with nothing to show for it. I've been in that exact boat where you keep showing up hoping this week will be different and it never is. The worst part is the awkward conversations when someone asks how many referrals you've gotten and you have to fudge the numbers. Two leads that went nowhere sounds like the group just wasn't clicking for you, no matter how many eggs you ate. Makes you wonder if half those groups are just social clubs dressed up as business opportunities.

inComparison test: Tite-Bond vs. Elmer's glue for book repairs
emmawood asked about cleaning the spine first - which yeah I definitely should have done with the Elmer's, but in my defense I was impatient and maybe a little dumb. The Tite-Bond I slapped on that same dusty spine like a total amateur and it still held, so either I got lucky or that stuff is just magic for old paper. My dog actually chewed up a vintage paperback after I fixed it with Tite-Bond and the spine stayed intact through the whole ordeal, which is either impressive or just proof my dog has expensive taste in chew toys. Probably shoulda cleaned it anyway though, that's a good tip.
