inRant: A stranger at the hardware store saved me from a huge mistake
My uncle bought a full chisel chain for his first firewood job and spent more time sharpening it than cutting. That skip tooth advice is solid gold, the kind of tip you only get from someone who's been there. It's funny how the most useful info always comes from a random person in line and not the guy getting paid to sell you the thing. I guess the real hardware store is the friends we made along the way, or something like that.

inMy uncle said to always replace the whole shutter assembly, but I fixed a single blade for $3
Sometimes a simple fix is all you need, saving a ton of cash and hassle.

inBack in '98 at the old Midland Steel foundry, we had a core break in the mold just before the pour.
We had a core shift on a big gear mold once. Grabbed some of that high-temp furnace cement from maintenance, the stuff in a caulk tube. Packed it in fast and let it cure for ten minutes with a tiger torch on it. Pour went fine and the casting cleaned up okay. It's messy but it buys you time when the sand fails.

inI've been reading comics wrong for years and just figured it out
Yeah, I had that same wake up call with older X-Men books. I force myself to slow down and treat each panel like a full page in a normal book, letting my eyes wander a bit before moving on. It sounds simple but it totally changes the pace and what you get out of it.

inGot called out on my hand signals by a new spotter last Tuesday
Did anyone get hurt when that almost happened?
