The PE teachers started doing a quick pavement check with a laser thermometer before sending kids out, and if the blacktop was over 120 they moved everything to the grass or the shade structure. They also flipped the schedule so PE is first thing in the morning for the younger grades. A few parents donated shade sails and that made a bigger difference than we expected.
