inWarning: My boss's push for fast finishes is ruining our system checks
Look, in some cases getting to market fast is the only way to stay alive. You can patch things up after launch if you have to. Losing a big client because you were late hurts way more than fixing a few bugs.

inMy backcountry battery fail turned me into a map purist
Ugh, just trying to fold the thing back up, @wren_smith40. You finally get it unfolded and then it's a battle you can't win. The real kicker is that paper ones are always out of date, so you follow a route right into some new road construction or a one-way street.

inHot take: My crew thinks I'm nuts for still using a block plane
My old shop teacher insisted on a thumb nail test to check for dullness before any sharpening. If the edge slides on your nail, it's time for the stones (it's a quick way to avoid over-sharpening). I do a few passes on a medium grit, then move to a fine stone for a polish. The leather strop with compound is what really gets it hair-shaving sharp, though. That keen edge lets you feel the wood instead of fighting the tool.
