Watching a client's face go blank at a coffee shop pitch meeting made me switch my whole approach.
I was explaining my complex process for a branding project at The Daily Grind in Austin, and when I saw his eyes glaze over, I realized I needed to start every conversation with a simple, single question: 'What's the one thing you need fixed right now?'

Used to overcomplicate things too.

Yeah the "overcomplicate things" part hits. I read this thing about how our brains love to make simple stuff hard, like we're wired to add extra steps. The article said it's often because we're scared of getting it wrong so we build in all these safety nets that just slow us down.

Yeah but I don't think it's always about being scared... sometimes we just miss the simple answer. Wesley385's point about safety nets is good though.
