Man, 45 feet on a 100 foot umbilical is a lot more than you'd think once you're actually in the water. In my experience tape marks every 10 feet are the way to go, since eyeballing fails you when the current picks up or you're focused on the work. Your mileage may vary, but I stopped trusting feel after getting yanked around on a similar job.

Waited in a 40 minute line at that BBQ place off 285 for years, kept telling myself it was just people who like standing around.
