Lost a $2,500 client project because my hard drive crashed in the middle of a deadline

I was finishing a big website redesign for a client in Austin when my main drive just died. I hadn't backed up my work for two days, so I lost all the final files. I had to call the client, explain the situation, and work 36 hours straight to rebuild everything from scratch. Has anyone else had to deal with a major tech failure right before a deadline, and what's your backup system now?

Honestly, how do so many smart people still trust a single hard drive? I see this all the time where folks treat their main computer like a magic box that never breaks. Tbh, it's not just about having a backup, it's about making the backup automatic so you can't forget. I set my stuff to save to the cloud every hour because my brain is for ideas, not for remembering to click a button. That two days of lost work is exactly the gap that kills you. After a scare like yours, I bet you'll never skip it again.

Feel your pain, been there. Eva_adams68 is right about making it automatic, that's the only way it works. I run two local backups plus a cloud sync, and I test them monthly to make sure they actually restore. That 36 hour rebuild is a brutal lesson, but it will make your system bulletproof.

Wait, you test your backups every single month? @daniel_wood, that's next level.
