Just got a check from a client I wrote off six months ago

I did some web design for a small cafe in Portland last fall and they ghosted me after I sent the final files. I chased them for a bit but gave up, figured the $750 was just gone, a cost of doing business. Then out of the blue, an envelope shows up today with a check and a short note apologizing for the delay, saying they had a rough patch with a supplier. I'm honestly shocked, I had totally moved on. It's not a huge amount, but it feels like found money and it's covering my internet bill for the next few months. Has this ever happened to anyone else, where a client you'd completely given up on actually came through?

That's the business version of finding a twenty in your winter coat. I had a client pay me for some copywriting two years after the fact, with no note or anything. By then I'd already done the mental math where I spent that money on groceries, so getting the check felt like I was committing fraud. Nice when people surprise you like that.

My old landlord sent a security deposit check three years late.

Glad it worked out for you, but I don't see it as found money. It was always yours. Sandraflores feeling like it was fraud is wild to me, you just got paid for work you did.
