My scrap metal forge hood turned out better than expected
I needed better air flow for my home melting spot. So I cut up an old dryer shell and shaped it into a hood. Mounted it with some bolts and a cheap fan from the hardware store. Now smoke doesn't hang around like it used to. Doing this saved me a couple hundred bucks on a fancy system. What other homemade fixes have you guys tried for shop safety?

Remember hearing about my buddy who kept getting flash from his welding setup. He went full MacGyver and built a curtain out of concrete reinforcing mesh, then layered old denim jeans over it with zip ties. Looked totally janky but it actually worked like a charm and cost him nothing. Said it scattered the light way better than working in the open.

Wondering if these homemade solutions are really up to par for serious safety. Like, that denim curtain might stop some light, but what about fumes or sparks catching fire? It just seems risky to cut corners when health is on the line.
