Tried cheap grocery store roses vs. wholesale this week and the difference blew my mind

I usually grab roses from the grocery store for small arrangements because it's easy. But I finally drove 45 minutes to a wholesale spot in Portland and got 100 stems for $65 instead of $2.50 each. The stems were thicker, the heads were way bigger, and they lasted 12 days in my fridge versus maybe 5 from the store. I did a side by side test with two bouquets for a friend's party and everyone noticed the wholesale ones looked healthier. Has anyone else made the switch and found it worth the extra drive?

You mentioned the stems were thicker - did that make them easier to arrange without drooping?

Were the stems actually firm enough to hold heavy blooms without leaning?

Wait, thicker stems aren't helping with that? @hugomurray
